MODEL 1909 HOLSTER AS ISSUED FOR THE .45 CALIBER MODEL 1909 AND 1917 REVOLVERS – VERY NICE SPECIMEN:  This is a very respectable example of the Model 1909 Holster, as issued with the Models 1909 Colt and 1917 Smith and Wesson .45 Caliber Revolvers.

In response to the mobilization of the US Army for World War One, and the demand for equipment exceeded Rock Island Arsenal’s capacity, contracts were negotiated with civilian manufacturers to provide such items as these holsters.  This holster was manufactured under one of those contracts by Graton and Knight of Worcester, Massachusetts in 1917.  The maker’s name and the date of manufacture is legibly stamped on the rear surface of the belt loop.

Featuring a nice even medium brown color, the leather retains a bright shiny surface.  It is neither oil soaked as so many are, nor discolored with use and age.  The leather is overall very smooth with no crazing or flaking.  All of the seams are intact as is the bottom plug with the lanyard ring intact.  The original leather leg thong is present in its original coil, and the original leather belt security thong is present for securing the holster in place on the web belts by lacing the thong through one of the belt’s eyelets.  The holster shows no evidence of having been issued or used.

Considering that so many of these Model 1909 Holsters were subjected to prolonged use through both of the world wars, and acknowledging that most surviving specimens of these holsters are found in a very sad state, that this specimen presents in such very good condition is indeed notable.  This Model 1909 Holster will be a significant addition to  your collection.  (0593)  $375
