WORLD WAR TWO  .30 CALIBER RIFLE AND CARBINE CARTRIDGE BANDOLIERS – “LIKE NEW” UNISSUED CONDITION – FOR ISSUE WITH THE M-1 GARAND RIFLES AND M-1 CARBINES:  The first method adopted by the Ordnance Department which enabled the soldiers to carry additional ammunition or to be resupplied on the line, these disposable bandoliers proved to be a durable concept that remained in service for many years.  These bandoliers were loaded with cartridges at the arsenals and depots and packed in watertight containers for shipment to the points of issue close to the front lines, dramatically increasing the amount of ammunition the soldier could carry into battle.

The majority of the surviving specimens seen on the market today were made under contract with the government by various cartridge companies such as Remington-UMC, Western, Winchester, Lake City, etc.  Made of OD green polished khaki cotton cloth, the pocketed sections are fitted with a light weight khaki cotton web sling.

These bandoliers have survived in excellent condition, showing no signs of use or issue, presenting in “like new” condition as if they came right from the ammunition depot supplies.  The material is clean and solid overall, with no wear or damage.

These are excellent examples of World War Two era bandoliers issued in the field and they are nice accessories to display with your M-1 Rifle or M-1 Carbine.

I have these two bandoliers shown below with accompanying photographs.

NO. 1   M-1 RIFLE .30 CALIBER CARTRIDGE BANDOLIER:  The body of this bandolier consists of six pockets – each of which would have contained 16 cartridges mounted in two 8 round stripper clips which in turn were held in a cardboard sleeve, for a total of 96 rounds.  Marked with a fully legible inked stencil and showing no sign of use or issue, this bandolier is in excellent condition.  (0622) $75

NO. 2   M-1 CARBINE .30 CALIBER CARTRIDGE BANDOLIER:  The body of the bandolier consists of six pockets – each of which would have contained 20 cartridges mounted in two 10 round stripper clips which were held in a cardboard liner, for a total of 120 rounds.  Marked twice with fully legible inked stencils and showing no sign of use or issue, this bandolier is in excellent condition.  This bandolier still retains the original black japanned safety pin which was used by the soldier to adjust the length of the sling.  (0621) $75
